This is one of my favorite topics to talk about. I’m pretty sure it is in the top ten of most preached messages. The main reason why this is my favorite truth is, this is what Jesus died for. In the garden of Eden, the environment was set for Adam to have an intimate relationship with God.
The key to understanding how to be intimate with God is looking at Adam in the Garden. In the garden of Eden, God was recognized as the leader. The whole temptation by Satan, was to question God’s leadership. Satan deceived them and lied to them about God’s intention. Any person in leadership knows that if the people following you don’t trust you then they won’t follow you. The things we can learn from the garden is that God the Father must be the head of our lives. For that to happen we must trust Him, and for us to trust Him we must Know Him.
For us to be intimate with God the above things must me established in our lives. So how does God become the head of my life. 1 Peter 5:6-7 says the following, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” For God to be the head in my life I must humble myself to Him. The word humble is a word that is thrown around so many times that we forget what it means. Humbling yourself before God means bringing yourself in proper position to God. Proper position. I emphasize that because we all know not to bring ourselves up, but we forget not putting ourselves down.
The last two things, trusting and knowing God go together. You cannot trust someone who you don’t know. This word know in the Greek is ‘Ginosko,’ it means to be sexually intimate. For us to know God we intimately know His word. When we are getting to know someone, you talk a lot. God’s word is one way He talks to us. We must be students of the word and correctly divide the word. Studying the word must be accompanied by spending time with Holy Spirit. The reason why studying the word must be accompanied by spending time with Him, is because only the Holy Spirit can make the word alive to us. When the word is made alive then change begins to happen.
